In 2009, Redeeming the Time!

As we are in the New Year, I would like us to embrace our blanket theme as “Redeeming the Time.” There are actually two references in the New Testament in regards to this theme. The first is found in Ephesians 5: 15 “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” The second reference is in Paul’s writing to the Colossian church and in Colossians 4: “ 5Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside,
redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.” I believe this focus will find its full application in both of these scriptural references. Do you notice the difference? The reference in Ephesians deals with the believer’s walking “circumspectly.” “Circum” referring to “circle” and “spectly” meaning “ to see, or look.” The first part of our theme we will evaluate the way we “spend” our time and what we are purchasing as the result.
We will focus on developing our “quiet time,” and time management will also play a part in the first aspect.
The scripture from Colossians deals more with how we influence those who are watching us, looking around at the world we live in and how we can best be the salt and light, redeeming the “times” as it were.
Beginning this month, we will hear various staff members share their insights into this forthcoming theme. Let me just give you a small hint… you will be delightfully surprised. I pray God would continue to give us His favor in the coming year and equip us with the tools and timing in both of these aspects to truly Redeem the Time.
